The Chief of Police is searching for two highly motivated and experienced professionals who are committed to achieving the goals of the department. The role of a Police Lieutenant is a vital management role within the Tehachapi Police Department and the City of Tehachapi.
The Police Lieutenant will be assigned to the Support Services Division, Operations Division, or other assignments based on the needs of the community and department. The Lieutenants administer, direct, and review the work of sworn personnel within the department. The Lieutenants are responsible for performing support activities, overseeing the development and implementation of policy and procedures while attaining the mission and goals of the department. The Lieutenants also handle complex internal and external investigative work as well as instruct subordinate officers (Sergeants). The Lieutenants personally participate in community events, work with other city departments and managers and serve as the Watch Commander and Acting Chief of Police as needed. Lastly, the Lieutenants will perform other related duties as assigned by the Chief of Police.
***Once a recruitment has been open for fourteen (14) calendar days, the City reserves the right to stop accepting applications if a sufficient number of qualified applications are received. To ensure review of application materials, applicants are strongly encouraged to apply as early as possible in the process. The recruitment is officially closed once it has been removed from the City's website.
Applicants are required to apply online. Hard copy application packets will not be accepted in lieu of applying through the online process. However, persons who believe they are qualified under the Americans with Disability Act (ADA) or California Fair Employment and Housing Act (FEHA) may request a reasonable accommodation to participate in the recruitment process. The request must be received by Human Resources with sufficient time prior to the final filing deadline, to allow for the request to be considered through the interactive process.
Applications received will be reviewed for accuracy, completeness, and job-related qualifications. A limited number of candidates whose applications clearly demonstrate they most closely meet the requirements may be invited to participate in the selection process, which may include any combination of written, oral and/or performance exams. Appointment is subject to successfully passing a comprehensive pre-employment background investigation, criminal history check, physical examination, psychological examination, and drug screen.
