The City of Winters is located in the southwestern corner of Yolo County, just east of Lake Berryessa and the Blue Ridge Coastal Range. Just thirty miles from Sacramento and an hour to the San Francisco Bay, Winters is perfectly situated in the countryside with convenient access to suburban and metropolitan areas.
Winters has a current population of approximately 8,500 residents. It is known for its friendly, small-town atmosphere, community events and easy access to outdoor activities. It’s charming, historic downtown boasts one of the more vibrant downtowns in Northern California, including farm to table restaurants, wineries, breweries, coffee houses, and boutiques. Winters is a highly desirable location to live and raise families and the city is expecting a 30%+ population growth within the next few years.
The Winters Police Department enjoys widespread support from the community and elected officials. The Police Department presently staffs 11 full-time sworn positions. The Police Department operates from a modern public safety facility and focuses on providing staff with the highest quality equipment as well as ample training opportunities. The Police Department also has a take home vehicle program for officers that live within 60 miles of the city.
Primary duties of officers are patrol-related; however, ancillary opportunities include participation in regional SWAT/CNT/Crown Control teams, in-house firearms/DT/EVOC instructors, Investigations, Bicycle and e-motorcycle patrol, Cadet Advisor, and more.
The city offers additional incentives and benefits including holiday pay, education pay, bilingual pay, shift differential, continuing education incentive, annual longevity bonus after five years of employment, and cafeteria plan for health care (or cash medical in-lieu if covered elsewhere).
The City of Winters participates in the CalPERS retirement system (2%@50 for Classic Members, 2.7%@50 for PEPRA Members), Social Security, and CALGOVEBA. The city offers voluntary participation in a 457(b) plan.

PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS Sit for extended periods of time; bend, twist, turn, kneel, squat, climb and reach; regularly push, pull, lift, and/or carry light to moderate weights; frequently lift and/or move moderate to heavy weights; occasionally lift and/or move heavy weights; restrain or subdue individuals; occasionally climb and balance; vision and hearing ability to P.O.S.T. standards; ability to speak well enough to be understood when transmitting information over telephone and radio; hand and finger dexterity sufficient to operate office equipment, non-lethal weapons, and firearms. Ability to work odd and irregular hours; to maintain attentiveness and concentration; to perform multiple tasks concurrently; to respond to urgent matters and emergency situations; to work under inclement weather conditions, noise and other environmental factors; overcomes physical obstacles during the course of work. Ability to maintain physical fitness requirements of the position; and to successfully complete a pre-employment physical agility evaluation, and a comprehensive psychological and medical examination prior to appointment.
