With an annual budget exceeding $16 million, the Porterville Police Department remains a full service agency. Its members are committed to community-oriented policing, using proactive and innovative approaches to reduce crime in the community with the primary focus of keeping the City streets, schools and neighborhoods safe.
Assisting the Chief of Police in achieving these goals are two Captains and five Lieutenants. Along with 11 Sergeants and a Communications Center Supervisor, a total of 79 sworn personnel work alongside 39 professional staff, each of whom work diligently as a team to address the needs of our community by utilizing innovative approaches. Meeting those needs are the various Units within the Department, including General, Special and Narcotics Investigations, Traffic, K-9, Animal Control, Communications, Records, Juvenile Diversion, and a Volunteer Program. Additionally, the Department fields a Special Weapons and Tactics Team which is supported by a Negotiations Team.
